Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. runs a centre of excellence serving the international scientific community and businesses.
The centre is specialised in the analysis of materials through extremely intense X rays and other beams of lights, combined with various analytical systems operating at a submicron level. These systems can reveal inaccessible details of the materials, simplify their manipulation and provide information in multiple fields of study including electronics, environmental sciences, materials engineering, medicine, and micro and nanotechnologies.
Two are the lightsources in the centre: Elettra, the storage ring wich has been producing the synchrotron light since 1993, and FERMI the free-electron laser recently built to produce short and intense flashes of laser radiation.
Every year more than one thousand researchers and several companies have access to the available know how and technologies.
